Augmenting productivity and profitability through Sesame–Legume intercropping

IntroductionIntercropping contributes a significant role in sustainable agricultural system as it improves soil conservation, productivity and stability of yield makes better use production elements. However, the economic advantages dis sesame legume intercropping is not quantified.MethodsField experiment, consisted seven treatments, conducted 2016 2017 cropping seasons using randomized complete block design with three replications. Land equivalent ratio, Competitive Ratio (CR), Relative crowding coefficient (K), Aggressivity (A), Sesame yield, Legume (LEY), Monetary Advantage Index, Area Time Equivalent (ATER), Saved correlation indexes were competed.ResultsThe highest total LER (0.63) recorded from intercropped half well full seed rate mungbean. mungbean showed lower CR (1.57) K was greater than unity treatments except + soybean 0.81. dominant aggressivity (0.13) while dominated both other negative aggressivity. The MAI (1181.15 1239.1) gained at rates respectively ATER value scored (0.94). Grain positively strong LEY, SEY, Ktot CRs As. Based on PCA biplot grouped to clusters (I-III): cluster I, II III 3, 1 9 respectively.ConclusionLS, are best compute profitability mixed cropping. Generally, based LS, sesame-legume practice economically profitable.
